The Historian - Elizabeth Kostova - **
I was disappointed. Very long investigation which finally doesn't quite deliver the good. The subject is good, though. Scary :)
Memoirs of a Geisha - Arthur Golden - **(*)
Entertaining but very forgettable. Extra star given because it is very readable and entertaining. Underlayers of historical research, apparent beauty and glamour, the story is just sounded a bit stupid to me and bascially about women bodies being sold for money.
Empire of the Sun - J.G.Ballard - ***
The Sea - John Banville - **
Good writing but I didn't really like it. It's a bit bland.
I feel bad about givin only two stars to a Booker Prize, but the truth is I didn't enojoyed the book. The purpose of this blog is to keep a record of the books I read and how much I enjoyed them. If the book did not touch me in any way, there is not point in giving it a good review because it received some prize. (As an aside, I generally consider the Booker Prize as a reliable good reference. Most of the winning books I have read were excellent.)
